We are honoured to open applications for 'Rooted in Remembrance', a three-day retreat rooted in the plants of our region and the teachings of our tradition taken place December 12th, 13th and 14th 2025.

Led by hikma rituals, the retreat brings together fieldwork, hands-on herbal preparation and shared ritual to explore the interconnection between plants, people, and place. It draws from Islamic and Sufi wisdom to guide us inward, so we may return with strength, clarity, and purpose. 

Each participant will choose one plant to walk with throughout the retreat and begin developing a personal monograph: a living study rooted in direct experience.

What to Expect

• Guided foraging field trip through the desert landscapes of Sharjah, engaging directly with native and regional plant ecologies
• Hands on herbal exploration: learn to make infusions, decoctions, oil infusions, and distilled plant waters using traditional methods
• Daily rhythms of dhikr, prayer, and shared ritual to ground the experience in remembrance and presence
• Hands-on creative sessions exploring texture and place through natural materials and embodied practices
• Sensory writing prompts, drawing exercises, and periods of quiet reflection 
• Teachings on plants from the Qur’an and Prophetic traditions, along with insights into plant energetics and soil regeneration 
• Nourishing meals crafted with regional ingredients, designed to support embodied presence throughout the retreat
