Beyond the Box

An evening of spoken word, reflection, and unapologetic self-expression.

Drawing from 25 years of personal poetry, Outside the Box is a spoken word journey through living, longing, belonging-and the courage of not conforming. These poems explore identity, expectations, and the beautiful complexity of finding one's place in the world.

The performance also features Afro Hair Diaries, a collection of witty, poignant, and sometimes heartbreaking vignettes inspired by everyday comments about big Afro hair. Through laughter, vulnerability, and reflection, these stories challenge our lifelong search for "normal" in a world determined to put us in boxes.

On display will be Cartography of Her by Muniza V: an artwork series of female form representations in time; each piece expresses the layers of continued complexities women hold within our past, present and future.

OTB is an invitation to embrace what makes us different and redefine be-YOU-ty.
